Rather than trying to do everything, focus on developing a practical strategy you can realistically maintain over time. Here are eight steps to help create a stronger social media plan.

Before creating accounts and posting content, determine what you want social media to accomplish.
Are you trying to:

- Build credibility?
- Increase website traffic?
- Stay connected with customers?
- Promote products or services?
Trying to be active on every social media platform often creates more work than results. Focus on one or two platforms your audience actually uses.
Having a clear purpose makes it easier to develop content and measure results.
Step #2: Understand Your Audience
Spend time thinking about who you want to reach.
Consider:
- Age ranges
- Interests
- Challenges
- Geographic areas
- Buying habits
- Preferred content types
Audience demographics matter, but behaviors matter too. Understanding how people consume content can help shape your approach.
The better you understand your audience, the more relevant your content becomes.
